After-Hours Tech Support No Longer being Staffed

The after-hours tech support Hotline that was set up at the beginning of the year has been discontinued. If you or your student experience issues with your device or software, please click the heading for this news article for online support pages or contact the school.

Read Across America Week at OPES - March 1-5

Join us in Celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America week by participating in the themed dress-up days. Click "Read Full Story" or click the header of this news post for what to wear each day.

Picture Day - Retakes

Assuming we are back in Hybrid mode, picture retakes are January 22 for B-Day
students and January 25 for A-Day students. We will again have an opportunity
for parents of Virtual students to bring their student to the gym for a photo after school (3:30-5:00) on both of those days.
If we remain all-Virtual at that time, retakes will be rescheduled.

Food Assistance Cards Available for Some Families

Families of students who are learning virtually for at least five consecutive days and are eligible for free or reduced price meals are eligible to receive a P-EBT food assistance card this fall. Click the title above for details.

Parents/Guardians Asked to Submit Student Information Online

Smyth County Schools request that parents/guardians use an online form to submit the student information that we traditionally collect by paper at the beginning of each school year. Please read the entire story below to access the link to the online forms.

Public Library Card Event

Smyth County Public Library in coordination with Smyth County school librarians will host this drive up event to encourage students and their families to sign up for library cards.
Receiving a library card allows patrons to use the public library at their leisure and more than doubles the number of books available to students when compared to their school library. It also gives patrons access to ebook platforms hosted by the public library (something I cannot do with my school library budget), as well as additional digital offerings like Ancestry.com.

Because OPES is off the beaten path, we will not be hosting one here, but there are four locations on three days from which to choose:
Sugar Grove & Chilhowie Elem on the 21st
Marion Elem on the 22nd
Atkins Elem on the 24th, all from 4pm to 7pm.

Saltville is holding their own sign up at the public library in town with their own dates and hours.
This isn't just an opportunity for school-aged children, it's for adults as well!
See the attached flyer for more information.
