OPES students celebrated the 100th day of this school year by dressing up as if they were 100 years old. They certainly are cute to be so old!

We are planning a Veteran’s Day Assembly to honor our Veterans on Friday, November 11th. Please send in pictures of any family members who have served. Please indicate the child and their relationship to the veteran such as: John Brown, uncle of Joe Brown, grade 2. We will return your photos. Please make sure they’re labeled with your child’s name. More details to come.

Please make sure your email is up to date with the school office. We will send school related information such as bus schedule changes or early release details to your email and we will post it on the OPES Facebook page.

Friday, October 28 will be Spooktacular at OPES! Students may wear their Halloween costumes to school. There will be several fun activities planned, including Reading with their Spuddies and Halloween/Fall activities in the classroom and during PE. Students can purchase a snow cone and a class photo to remember the day. Forms were sent home and should be completed and returned with money by October 25. Students will also Trick or Treat around the outside track (weather permitting).

OPES will celebrate the 50th day of school on October 18 by dressing up in 1950's style attire. We are so excited to see all the students dressed up for 50's Day in rolled-up jeans, white T-shirts, leather jackets, poodle skirts, ponytails, or even saddle oxfords! There will be a 50's style Sock Hop during the school day. Admission is $1.00.

We are gearing up for our book fair, and we’re also celebrating Grandparents’ Week. Grandparents are invited to come and eat lunch with their grandchildren and then visit the book fair. Please come on the day and time assigned for your child’s teacher. Click this news heading for a schedule.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. As you may know, one of our own OPES students is battling leukemia. We would like to show our support by raising money for St. Judes Children’s Hospital in Memphis where this student is undergoing treatment.

OPES will have a Penny Drive to see which class can raise the most money. Students can bring in pennies (or any monetary amount), and for every $1.00 raised, we will hang an orange or gold ribbon on our hallway tree! The class that wins this contest by raising the most money will receive a popcorn party.
